Here are the ingredients that you need in order to make these fruity fruit roll-ups:
- 2-3 cups fruit cut into small cubes (3 peaches, 4 nectarines, 1 lb strawberries, 1 pint blueberries etc.) The smaller the fruit you choose, the higher the quantity you will need. You can also choose to add multiple flavors and even jams to the mixture. Just remember that jams already have additional sugars.
- 3 Tablespoons sugar
- 1-2 Tablespoons lemon juice
Here are the directions that you need to follow in order to make these homemade fruit roll-ups:
First, you need to heat the oven to 200F(or as low as your oven will go!). Depending on the temperature, your fruit will take longer to dehydrate.
Then, in a blender, puree all of the fruit together until it’s smooth. The fruit may clump together so it may take several minutes for the mixture to become smooth and uniform.
Once the mixture is smooth, you want to add the sugar and lemon juice. Then pulse the mixture to combine everything again.
Pour the fruit puree onto a baking sheet lined with plastic wrap and spread ½-¼” thick. Just keep in mind the thickness defines the time it will spend in the oven! Tap the pan on the counter once or twice to settle the mixture, then bake for 1-3 hours or until the middle of your fruit sheet is no longer tacky to the touch. This can take up to six hours depending on your oven.
Remove from the oven and cool completely. Once cool, remove the fruit sheet from the plastic wrap and with clean scissors, cut your fruit sheet into long narrow strips for a Fruit by the Foot effect or into a 6×6” square for some Fruit Roll-Up action, being sure to also cut a similarly sized piece of wax or parchment paper as you roll.
