Staining tea
In most cases, tea leaves will leave a stain. However, it’s believed that altered teas cause a more pronounced mark than those considered pure. This goes double if the product has been dyed with coal-tar. This dark substance is typically used to coat old leaves and give off the impression that they’re fresh.
Luckily, it’s relatively easy to identify if this dye is present or not. Just apply some leaves to a piece of filter paper then sprinkle it with water. After that’s done, run the paper under a tap and identify if there are any stains. Pure tea won’t leave a mark.
