Nigella’s ‘good girl’ image took a turn in 2013 as accusations started to litter the headlines. Her two former assistants, Elisabetta and Francesca Grillo, claimed that Nigella had been taking illegal substances. They even claimed that Nigella made the Grillo sisters keep her supposed habits hidden from her now ex-husband, Charles Saatchi. It wasn’t long before photos and stories of the chef emerged that appeared to prove the sisters could be onto something.
