Mario Batali was accused of stealing tips from restaurants
Many servers across the nation make a large part of their wage through the tips they receive throughout the night. Perhaps that’s why so many people were angered when they heard that Mario Batali had been accused of skimming tips? The case came to light in 2010 when a suit representing 117 workers from Mario’s restaurant came forward with the case.

They accused the TV chef of skimming all the tips that were handed over from his restaurants. He would allegedly keep 4% – 5% of the tips before handing them back to the workers. These were particularly important to the sommeliers working at the restaurants. It wasn’t long before the number of people accusing the chef of stealing was enough to attract plenty of media attention.
