Protests spoke out against Jamie’s recipe
Of course, it didn’t take long for several prominent people to come forward and talk about the chef’s new jerk rice. One Jamaican chef who had previously taught Jamie how to make an authentic Jamaican jerk chicken confessed they were less than impressed with the decision.

Another daughter of Jamaican immigrants, Dawn Butler, also publicly spoke about how she believed that Jamie’s new product was cultural appropriation and that he should pay more respect to where the food and flavors come from. Jamie tried to explain that it was nothing more than a mistake and that he was trying to honor the tastes he had used for the recipe. It was too little, too late as many members of the Jamaican community refused to accept the apology.
