Here are the instructions that you will need in order to make this root beer orange milkshake:

First, you need to prepare some of the ingredients the night before. Pour 1 and 1/2 cups orange juice and 1 and 1/2 cups root beer into separate ice cube trays. Then freeze these ice cube trays overnight. The next day, place a medium bowl and four 12-oz. clear glasses in the freezer to chill before you prepare the milkshake.

Next, preheat the broiler and position a rack in the top third of your oven. Then take a baking sheet and line it with nonstick foil. Take the marshmallows and spread them out on the baking sheet making sure that the marshmallows don’t touch each other.

Then, broil the marshmallows until they golden, about 1 minute. Don’t walk away from the broiler once you put the marshmallows in. They can easily burn. Remove the baking sheet from the broiler and let the marshmallows cool on the baking sheet for about 30 minutes.

Next, using a blender, puree the remaining 1/4 cup orange juice and the frozen orange juice cubes until the mixture reaches a slushie consistency. You can stop to stir with a spatula if needed until the slushie consistency is reached.

Then, transfer the slushie to the bowl that has been chilling in the freezer. Repeat this process with the remaining 3/4 cup root beer and the root beer cubes. However, you need to leave the root beer slushie in the blender; don’t transfer it to the bowl in the freezer.

Next, take the chilled glass out of the freezer to begin assembling the milkshake. Working quickly and using a spoon, fill one-quarter of the chilled glass with some of the root beer slushie. Top that with about 1/3 cup vanilla ice cream and sprinkle with 2 tbsp. marshmallows. Spoon in a layer of orange slushie, then another layer of ice cream. You can use as much or as little of each ingredient as you want.

Then, sprinkle the remaining marshmallows on top. Serve immediately with a long spoon, or freeze again for an hour before serving.
